Bu çalışmada İlahiyat Fakültelerinin gelişimi, öğretim hayatımıza katkıları, nasıl daha kaliteli eğitim yapabilecekleri, sahip oldukları bilimsel potansiyel ve imkanlar ile karşılaştıkları güçlükler ve açılımlar konusu üzerine durulmuş, ayrıca ilahiyat Fakültelerinin vizyonu ve misyonu ile ilgili düşünceler dile getirilmiştir. İlahiyat fakültelerinin akademik yapılanmalarına bakıldığında, sadece İslam bilimleri değil din bilimleri, felsefe, psikoloji, sosyoloji vb. bilimlerin de yer aldığı ve programlarda ders olarak okutulduğu görülmektedir. Yani İlahiyat Fakülteleri, öğrencilerini tek yönlü değil çok yönlü yetiştirme gayreti içindedir. İlahiyat Fakültelerinin eğitim ve toplumu aydınlatma görevlerini yerine getirirken karşılaştıkları güçlükler olmakla birlikte, bunları aşabilecek imkanları da bulunmaktadır. Bu fakülteler, mezunlarının hizmet alanlarını dikkate alarak toplumsal değişim ve ihtiyaçlar doğrultusunda kendilerine yeni bir vizyon ve misyon belirlemek durumundadırlar. 

In this study, we have concentrated on the development of the theology faculties in Turkey, especially on their contributions to education and teaching, how they can carry out an education of better quality, their scientific potentials and possibilities and difficulties they may face. In addition, some views about the vision and mission of the theology faculties have been expressed. When we look at the academic structure of the theology faculties, we see that not only Islamic sciences but also religious sciences, philosophy, psychology, sociology etc. are taking place in the curriculum as courses to teach. That is, these faculties have been trying to improve the quality of their students not only from one angle but from many angles. Although there are some hardships faced by these faculties while fulfilling their education and enlightening mission, they have also possibilities to overcome these difficulties. These faculties are now in the situation of determining a new vision and mission for themselves in line with social changes and needs of the individual and society taking the service fields of their graduates into consideration.
