Signs and Symptoms Accompaying Childhood Cancers

Childhood cancers are rare, but they constitute a serious health problem. It is the second most common cause of childhood mortality in developed countries. Given the fact that presenting signs and symptoms of cancer are similar to those of common childhood diseases, there may be delays in the diagnosis and treatment. Early detection may reduce intensity of the therapy and mortality rates. To avoid diag- nostic delay, primary care physicians should be knowled- geable about childhood cancers, and if cancer is suspected, early consultation with a pediatric oncologist is needed before aaplication of unnecessary interventions
