W. V. Quine, Metaphysics and Pragmatism

According to W. V. Quine, science advocates a physicalist ontology and an empiricist epistemology. However, Quine’s ontological physicalism in cludes the abstract objects of mathematics, such as numbers or sets. So, Quine’s commitments to empiricism are firm but not permanent. Quine has incorporated various elements of pragmatic thought into his philosophical out look, that is why I advocate that Quine’s philosophy decidedly gives to the pragmatic view of empiricism.

W. V. Quine’a göre bilim, fizikselci bir ontoloji ve deneyimci bir epistemo lojiyle gerçekleşir. Bununla birlikte, Quine, ontolojisinde sayılar ve kümeler gibi matematiğin soyut nesnelerinin varlığını kabul etmektedir. Dolayısıyla, Qui ne’ın deneyimciliğe bağlılığı güçlü olmakla birlikte kalıcı değildir. Quine, prag matizmin unsurlarını felsefesinde bir araya getirmektedir. Bu bakımdan, bu ça lışmada Quine’ın deneyimciliğe pragmatist bir görünüm kazandırdığı savunul maktadır.
