Vitamin D and Breast Cancer

Recent studies show that, the hormone-like effect of vitamin D plays an important role not only in bone metabolism but also in other organ functions and focus on the association of vitamin D levels and disease development. The relationship between vitamin D and certain diseases such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases has been one of the most extensively researched topics. Other issues which also discussed are menopausal status, tumor characteristics, optimal amount of vitamin D intake and serum levels. In our review, main debate is about the effect of intake and serum levels of vitamin D on breast cancer incidence and mortality.
