Türk Tarih Kurumu Genel Müdürü Sayın M. Uluğ İğdemir 31 Mart 1979 da sekseninci yaşını bildiriyor bizlere. Kendisine ilkönce bu çalışma hayatında daha uzun ömürler dileyerek yazıma başlıyorum. Türk Tarih Kurumu'nun resmi dernek oluşu gününden beri sorumlu sekreter ve Genel Müdür olarak muntazam çalışması ile Türk Tarih Kurumu'nun her hususta gelişmesinde başlıca amil olan kişidir kendisi. Bu yazımda bir medih edebiyatı yapmak için değil, fakat gerçekleri belirtmek için bazı meseleleri açıklamak istiyorum. Çünkü bütün yıllar boyunca Türk Tarih Kurumu'nun kurucu üyesi ve bazı yıllarda Yönetim Kurulu üyesi olarak Uluğ İğdemirle beraber çalışma durumumuz oldu. Bir kere hangi meselenin incelenmesini istesem, derhal dosyalarını Uluğ İğdemir'den hemen bulmamız mümkündür. Çalışma saatleri örnek olacak derecede ayarlıdır. Hatta bir arkadaşımız "ben saatimi Genel Müdürün geliş ve gidişine göre ayarlarım" derdi. Türk Tarih Kurumu bilindiği gibi Atatürk'ün fikrine göre kurulmuş ve çalışmalarını kendi sağlığında yakın ilgisi ile devam ettirmiştir. İstanbul'da Dolmabahçe Sarayında Türk Tarih Kurumu'na ayrılmış bir daire vardı ve Sayın Uluğ İğdemir daima orada bulunurdu.

Nimet Özgüç, The Anatolian Group of Cylinder Seal Impressions from Kültepe, Ankara, 1965 (hereafter AnatGr). Although few specific references will be made to this book, its content, observations and conclusions will be implicit throughout this paper.
