Cide and Şenpazar 2009-2010 Archaeological Investigations

The Cide Archaeology Project is an international archaeological survey, which is being conducted in the Cide and Şenpazar Districts of Kastamonu Province, as a collaboration of the Faculty of Archaeology of the University of Leiden, Department of Archaeology of the University of Glasgow and the Department of Art History of the University of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart. The project was initiated in 2009 and it is planned to be completed with the 2011 season. All periods from the prehistoric ages to the Ottoman period are investigated in detail as a part of the studies. The main objectives are documenting the changes the local culture went through over time and understanding the nature and effects of the sodo-cultural interactions with the surrounding regions at different periods. The finds from the 2009 and 2010 seasons and the results reached following their study are covered in this article. This research conducted in an area where no systematic archaeological investigations were performed before, has allowed us to update our knowledge about the history and past cultures of this part of Anatolia, and has shown that the history of humanity in the region has started at a much earlier date than what was predicted before.
