Tarih boyunca yapılan kazılarda en eski kültür kalıntıları arasında yer alan pişmiş toprak hayvan ve insan figürleri, insanların eski çağlardan beri kili şekillendirip pişirmeyi bildiklerini göstermektedir. Bilinen en eski seramik örneklerine ise Anadolu’da rastlanmıştır. Bu çağda saman karıştırılmış çamurdan, çark kullanılmadan elle şekillendirilerek yapılan çanak-çömlekler üretilmiştir. Daha sonra bu ürünlerin basit geometrik motiflerle bezendiği görülmüştür. Günümüzde Anadolu’nun birçok yöresinde mevcut olan çömlek üretim merkezlerden biri de Manisa’nın Kula ilçesinde yapılan çömlekçiliktir. Kula’da uzun yıllar boyunca çömlekçilikle uğraşılmış ve bu işle ilgilenen işletme sayısı giderek azalmıştır. Günümüzde ise, “Kahraman Kardeşler Testicilik” küçük bir işletme olarak halen varlığını sürdürmektedir. Kahraman Kardeşler’ in traktör ya da kamyonlarla getirdikleri hammadde, önce dinlendirmekte, daha sonra geleneksel bir yöntemle elle şekillendirerek testi, küp, bardak, çömlek gibi çeşitli ürünler elde edilmektedir. Elde edilen bu ürünler ise turistik bölgelere satılmaktadır. Bu bildiride, Manisa ili Kula ilçesi çömlekçiliği incelenmiş, çömlek yapımıyla uğraşan ustalar, çömlek yapım aşamaları ve elde edilen ürünler fotoğrafları çekilerek belgelenmiştir.

In excavations throughout the history, the terracotta animal and human figures, one of the oldest cultural remains, show that people have known how to shape and fire the clay since ancient times. The oldest known examples of pottery were found in Anatolia. In that age, potteries made of clay mixed with straw, were produced without the use of hand wheel dish-pots. Then, it was seen that these products were decorated with a simple geometric motifs. Today one of the pottery production centers available in many part of Anatolia is also in Kula, Manisa. In Kula, people had worked in pottery production for many years and the number of those engaged in the business was gradually decreased. Today, “Kahraman Kardeşler Pottery Industry” as a small business has still subsisted. Raw materials brought in trucks or tractor by Kahraman Kardeşler are firstly set aside and then they are shaped with a traditional method by hand and made different products such as pottery, glass, the cube, etc. These products are sold in tourist regions. In this declaration, the pottery tradition in Kula, Manisa was studied and pottery masters, the process of production and the products were documented by taking photos.
