Avrupa Birliği Geçiş Ekonomilerinde Bankacılık Sektörü Karlılığının Belirleyicileri: Bir Panel Regresyon Analizi

Finansal gelişme günümüzde ekonomik büyümenin önemli bileşenlerinden birisi haline gelmiştir. Özellikle yükselen piyasa ekonomileri ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerde bankacılık sektörü, finans sektörünün lokomotifi durumundadır. Bu nedenle bankacılık sektörünün etkin ve sağlıklı bir şekilde çalışması, tüm ekonomik birimler için çok önemlidir. Bu çalışmada panel regresyon analizi kullanılarak 1998-2015 döneminde içsel ve dışsal etkenlerin Avrupa Birliği geçiş ekonomilerinde bankacılık sektörü karlılığı üzerindeki etkisi analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda ekonomik büyümenin bankacılık sektörü karlılığını pozitif, banka büyüklüğü, takipteki krediler ile ekonomik durgunlukların bankacılık sektörü karlılığını negatif etkilediği belirlenmiştir.

Determinants of Banking Sector Profitability in Transition Economies of European Union: A Panel Regression Analysis

Financial development has become one of the important components of economic growth at the present day. Banking sector is locomotive of the financial sector especially in emerging markets and developing countries. Therefore, efficiently and healthfully functioning of the banking sector is crucial for the whole economy. This study investigates the impact of internal and external factors on banking sector profitability in transition economies of European Union during 1998-2015 period. We revealed that economic growth affected banking sector profitability positively, while banking sector size, nonperforming loans, and economic recessions affected the banking sector profitability negatively.
