Spontaneous Rupture of the Extensor Pollicis Longus Tendon due to Unusual Etiology

Background:Theetiology of spontaneous rupture of theextensor pol-licislongus tendon includes systemic orlocalsteroid injections, wrist fracture, tenosynovitis, synovitis, rheumatoid arthritis, andrepetitivewrist motions.Case Report:Weencountered a caseofextensor pollicis longus ten-donrupture withanunusual etiology, cowmilking. In thiscase,trans-ferof theextensor indicis proprius tendon wasperformed successfully.At 1 year after surgery, extension of the thumb was sufficient.Conclusion:It appears thatpatients withoccupations involving repeti-tive motions are at a high risk of closed tendon ruptures.
