The effect of intermittent lighting schedule on growth perfomance of boilers
This trial was conducted to determine the effect of intermittent lighting schedule (3 h light: l h dark) on performance of male and female broilers. 300 day-old Ross PM3 broiler chickens (150 male and 150 female) were used in this study. Half of the male and female chickens were raised under 23 hour light: 1 hour dark (control group), whereas the other chickens remained 3 hour dark: 1 hour light (intermittent lighting group). The investigation contiuned three replicates and lasted at 42 days. There were no significant differences between intermittent lighting group and control group with respect to body weight, weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion, edible internal organs (heart and liver), and carcass yield. Feed consumption, weight gain and feed conversion rate of males were higher than females. The carcass weight and edible internal organs weight of male chickens were significantly (p < 0.01) higher man female chickens. At the end of the experiment, it was determined that sex and intermittent lighting schedule did not effect on mortality rate.
