Determine the gender from cranial bone by using geometric morphometric method in males and females and ramus flexure

The purpose of this study was to determine the gender from cranial bone by using geometric morphometric method in males and females. The sample of this study constituted of 12 volunteer male and 13 female volleyball players aged between 15 to 17 from a high school at Kaman. Left lateral craniofacial and mandibular x-rays were taken from the students. Geometric morphometric analyzes were applied to the all data. 14 homolog referans noktası anatomic points were determined from x-rays. Relation Warp (RW) analyzes indicated that while RW1 was 30%, the RW2 was 21 % and these two components explains the 51 % of total variance. The other two components explains the 49% of the differences. RW analyzes graphic indicated that, generally women’s were placed at the left side of the main axis and men’s were placed at the right side. The deformation grid differences between the genders and changes between vectors were clearly become visible. The result indicated that there was a significant difference between the genders in “ramus mandibulae”. This case clearly exposes the “ramus flexure” structure 85% ratio in male and 15% in females. In this study, there were sinus frontale differences between genders and also in same individuals in the macro anatomical point of view.
