Asthma–COPD Overlap Syndrome

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma are the most common chronic pulmonary disorders. One in every twelve persons worldwide have asthma or COPD. COPD and asthma are characterized by airway obstruction and chronic airway inflammation. When there are both signs and symptoms of both asthma and COPD in a person, this condition is called Asthma-COPD Overlap Syndrome. Asthma-COPD Overlap Syndrome should be considered when an asthmatic person has persistent airflow limitation and smoking history, or when a person with COPD has a history of childhood asthma and shows reversibility in respiratory function tests and eosinophilia in airflow inflammation. The aim of this article is to describe clinical features and treatment of Asthma-COPD Overlap Syndrome
