Odontoid fractures

In this report, 36 cases of odontoid fractures have been reported. 24 of them , who had type 2 odontoid fractures have been operated via posterior cervical approach and their preoperative neurologi¬cal states, operative criteria and outcome in the pos¬toperative period have been reviewed. 6 cases with type 3 odontoid fractures and 6 cases who had type 2 fractures with anterior dislocation below 6 mm. had been treated non surgically. The other cases we¬re operated as soon as their general condition beca¬me suitable for an operation under general anesthe¬sia. Posterior fusion was performed and in the pos¬toperative period significant improvement in their neurologic status was observed.
