Comparison of NASCET, ESCT and CC methods in grading of carotid arterial stenoses

Aim: Three different methods for measuring internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis have been proposed in the literature. In this study, we compared three angiographic methods and investigated the relationship between the methods. Materials and Methods Two observers independently measured 206 carotid stenosis on angiograms of 146 patients. The stenoses were measured according to the European Carotid Surgery Trial (ECST), North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial(NASCET), and Common Carotid(CC) methods. Three angiographic measurement methods using linear regression analyses were compared. Interobserver variations were determined. Results: The ECST and CC methods graded stenoses similarly. NASCET method tended to underestimate the degree of stenosis. In regression analysis, there was a linear relationship among all three methods(P
