Çağdaş oryantalistlerden Musevi kökenli bir Agnostik olan Lesley Hazleton’un “İlk Müslüman” kitabı 2013 yılında düzenlenen TEDX konuşması sonrası uluslararası ilim çevrelerinde dikkat çekmiştir. Hz. Muhammed’in ilk vahiy tecrübesine objektif bakışıyla popüler olan yazar Resûlullah’ın insani yönlerine değinerek birçok konuda özgün tespitlerde bulunmuştur. İbn İshak ve Taberî’nin rivayet örgüsünü statüsel bir kurguyla sunan eser Hz. Peygamber’in toplumdaki yükselişine odaklanmaktadır. Böylece yazar, Hz. Muhammed’in liderlik yolundaki merdivenleri Makyavelist bir zihinle çıktığını ima etmektedir. Hazleton’un sübjektif oryantalist literatürün devamı niteliğindeki eseri İlk Müslüman – Hz. Muhammed’in Hikayesi’ni değerlendireceğiz.

The book "The First Muslim" by Lesley Hazleton, a contemporary orientalist and an Jewish originated Agnostic, attracted attention in international scholarly field after her TEDX speech in 2013. The author, who is po-pular with her objective view of Muhammad's first revelation experience, made unique indications on many issues by referring to the humanitarian side of the Prophet. Presenting the narrative pattern of Ibn Ishaq and Tabari with a status-based fiction, the work focuses on the rise of the Prophet in society. Thus, the author implies that Muhammad ascended the stairs on the path of leadership with a Machiavellian mind. In this article, we will evaluate Hazleton's work, The First Muslim: The Story of Muhammad, which is a continuation of the subjective orientalist literature.
