A rare cause of neonatal respiratory distress; Congenital vallecular cyst
Congenital vallecular cyst is a very rarely seen disease which may result in mortality soon after birth. In this article, a vallecular cyst case of a newborn having cyanosis and severe respiratory distress for 17 days who was urgently treated by surgical operation is discussed in terms of diagnosis and treatment methods in company with the relevant literature. In patients with severe respiratory distress if deemed necessary, a direct laryngoscopy may be performed without intubation in operative conditions in the patient who has spontaneous respiration, without a delay for flexible laryngoscopy. Thus, immediate medical attention is possible for surgically treatable cases such as congenital vallecular cysts.
