İstatistik, tıbbi araştırmaların değerlendirilmesinde ve sonuçlarının yorumlanmasında önemli bir araçtır. Araştırmaların kalitesi ve geçerliliği için, istatistiksel testleri destekleyecek genişlikte örneklemlerle çalışılması, seçilen istatistiksel yöntemlerin uygun olması ve sonuçların doğru yorumlanması gerekir. İstatistiksel yöntemlerin seçiminde dağılım varsayımlarının göz ardı edilmesi, kurulan hipotezlerle örtüşmeyen yöntemlerin kullanılması uygulama hatalarının önemli iki nedenidir. Bu derleme tıbbi araştırmalarda kullanılan istatistiksel yöntemler üzerine genel bir bakış açısı kazandırılması amacıyla hazır­lanmıştır. Derlemede, bazı temel istatistiksel tanımlar, minimum örneklem genişliği ve testin gücünün belirlenmesi ile ilgili özet bilgiler ileyeri türlerine uygun istatistiksel yöntemlerin neler olabileceği gözden geçirilmiştir.

Statistics is an important means for evaluating and interpreting the results of medical research. To ensure the quality and validity of research, it is necessary to study samples that are large enough to support the statistical tests, to use suitable statistical methods and to interpret the results correctly. The application errors that researchers face are either ignoring the required distributional assumptions in determining statistical methods or using inappropriate methods for the hypothesis to be tested. The aim of this review is to present a general overview of the statistical methods used in medical research. The review presents some basic statistical definitions, a brief summary of estimation of minimum sample size and power determination, and statistical methods that should be used for different types of data.
