Cerabral monitoring in cardiac surgery

Neurological outcome is the most significant determinant of long-term quality of life after both pediatric and adult cardiac surgery. This article aims to outline the adverse neurological events and the factors affecting the outcome after cardiac surgery; to explain the importance of neurological monitoring and to describe the devices used for this purpose; and finally to review the related literature.
