A research on evaluation of hotel general managers’ profiles

The objective of this study is to assess the detailed profile and career paths of Turkish hotel general managers (GMs) working in Turkey and identify their managerial qualifications needs. In the survey, 238 hotel general managers filled in the questionnaire through the Internet. The data was analyzed using the SPSS package. The results show that the front office function is the dominant route to hotel general management and communication skills are considered the most important for a career in hotel management. Findings of this study should provide benefits for both current/potential hotel employees and students of the hospitality schools in understanding the job qualifications required for the GM position.
