Bu çalışma 1998-1999 yıllarında, Van Gölü havzasında yer alan Gevaş yöresinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada yörede tohumdan yetişmiş ayva populasyonu incelenmiştir, ilk yıl 33, ikinci yıl ise 19 tip değerlendirmeye alınmıştır. Yöredeki populasyonun daha ziyade küçük meyveli tiplerden oluştuğu gözlenmiştir. İki yıllık ortalamalara göre, tiplerde ortalama meyve ağırlıkları 121.84 g (65.Ge.22)-350.96 g (65.Ge.8), meyve boyu 5.64 cm (65.Ge.22)-9.81 cm (65.Ge.8), meyve çapı 5.83 cm (65.Ge.29)-8.19 cm (65.Ge.8), % SÇKM 9.95 (65.Ge.l)-17.80 (65.Ge.16), meyve eti sertliği 9.01 Ib (65.Ge.27)-10.74 lb(65.Ge.3), çekirdek eni 0.39 cm (65.Ge.10)-0.55 cm (65.Ge.2), çekirdek boyu 0.62 cm (65.Ge,16)-0.79 cm (65.Ge.28), titre edilebilir asitlik %0.59 (65.Ge.22)-%1.41 (65.Ge.32) ve pH 3.11 (65.Ge.10)-6.65 (65.Ge.32) arasında tespit edilmiştir. Tiplerin 10'u armut, 9'u elma biçimli ayva grubuna girmiştir. Yapılan fenolojik gözlemler sonucu sürgün tomurcuğu patlamasının 18-20 Nisan, çiçek tomurcuğu patlamasının 2-5 Mayıs, tam çiçeklerime tarihlerinin 15-20 Mayıs, hasat tarihlerinin ise 6-16 ekim tarihleri arasında değiştiği belirlenmiştir.

This study was carried on the quince types grown in Gevaş district situated in the Lake Van Region in 1998-1999. In research, quince population from seed of district was investigated for two years. Thirty-three quince types in the first year and nineteen types in the second year were evaluated. Quince population usually consisted of smaller fruits. According to averages of two years, determined types had between 121.84 (65.Ge.22) and 350.96 g (65.Ge.8) average fruit weights, fruit lengths from 5.64 (65.Ge.22) to 9.81 cm (65.Ge.8), fruit diameters from 5.83 (65.Ge.29) to 8.19 cm(65.Ge.8),TSS contents from 9.95 (65.Ge.l)to 17.80 (65.Ge. 16), fleshy hardness of fruit from 9.01 (65.Ge.27) to 10.74 Ib (65.Ge.3), seed wide from 0.39 (65.Ge.10) to 0.55 cm (65.Ge.2), seed lengths from 0.62 (65.Ge. 16) to 0.79 cm (65.Ge.28), titrable acid contents from 0.59 (65.Ge.22) to 1.41 (65.Ge.32) and pH varied from 3.11 (65.Ge.10) to 6.65 (65.Ge.32). Nine types were apple-shaped and ten types were pear-shaped. Shoot buds breaking times were between 18 and 20 April, flower buds breaking times were between 2 and 5 May, full blooming were between 15 and 20 May, and harvest dates changed between 6 and 16 October.
