ABSTRACT
Awareness
of Nurses on The Status of Fatique in
Patients of Cancer
Aim: It was examined to
determine compatibility arising from cancer disease associated with the study.
Methods: The sample of the study consisted of
seventynurses, working at Ege and Dokuz Eylül University Hospitals as
caregivers fo rcancer patients between April 2011 and June 2011. In order to
determine the sociodemographic and working status of the nurses and the
awareness of nurses about the fatigue of cancer patients, the Nurses' Fatigue
Identification Form was used. An individual interview method was used to collect
the data. In the evaluation of the data, descriptive statistics, mean ±
Standard deviation, spearman correlationan alysis was used in determining the
relationship between variables.
Results: The followings were
obtained as theresults of thestudy: The
nurses identified the fatique as %82.9 by observing thepatients’ body-language and
%81.4 from personal complaints .The
patients evaluated fatique as the second severe stsymp to after anxiety and the
fatique was perceived as a problem by
%87.1 of the patients; however, %81.4 of
the nurses used no scales and %40
of the nurses tried to perform a medical attention against fatique. As another
result of the study, there were no significant relationships between the
sociodemographic&workcondition of nurses and the awareness of fatique
status of cancer patients.
Conclusion: Nurses have been aware of
the fatigue of cancer patients, but the result of few attempts to manage this
symptom has been reached.
