ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ECONOMIC GROWTH ANDFINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT WITH ADDITIONAL VARIABLES: THE CASE OFTURKEY
In this study, the relationship between economic growth and financial development hasbeen examined. The study was conducted with data of Turkey for the period of 1970- 2015. In addition to the financial development variable, analyzes were made byincluding trade openness, alternative and nuclear energy consumption variables in thestudy. Empirical analysis of the study was performed by Granger causality tests basedon the Johansen cointegration and error correction model. As a result of the analysis, acointegration relationship between variables was found. Whether the error correctionmodel works after cointegration has been investigated. As a result, the error correctioncoefficient was found to be negative and statistically significant. According to theresults of the Granger causality test conducted later, while there is a bidirectionalcausality relationship between economic growth and financial development, a one-waycausality relationship from financial development to trade openness was found. Theneutrality hypothesis is valid between energy consumption and economic growth, thatis, there is no causal relationship in the Granger sense. No finding of causality wasfound between the trade openness variable and economic growth.
