Help Seeking Scale (HSS): Validity and Reliability Study

The aim of this research is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that can measure help seeking inclination of university students in the learning process. A total of 1105 (736 female and 369 male) university students participated to the research. Research data was acquired with the participation of 514 students through use of 5-item Likert type scale test form for explanatory factor analysis. The results of explanatory factor analysis show that scale has a four-factor structure with 17 items as Help Seeking Threat, Help Seeking Avoidance, Instrumental Help Seeking and Executive Help Seeking. Factor structure acquired in the explanatory factor analysis was tested against confirmatory factor analysis with the data collected from 591 students and found out to be in good compatibility. Cronbach Alpha reliability co-efficient for the whole and the dimensions of the scale has been determined respectively as .87; .85; .80; .80; .70. Obtained results show that Help Seeking Scale to measure help seeking inclinations of university students is a valid and reliable measurement tool
