Design of Active EMDR Treatment Device for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
The number of people applying to the psychiatric clinic is increasing day by day due to events brought about by modern life or functional disorders of brain neuron activity. Psychologists and psychiatrists (specialists) apply a variety of treatment modalities to individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder, obsession, autism, schizophrenia. EMDR technique is only one of these methods, and it is a method that is frequently applied to patients who have been traumatized by specialists. Studies in the literature show that EMDR method is a method used clinically, but the method is proved to be successful with observational studies and statistical analyzes. However, the use of the EMDR device during treatment is negligible. EMDR was applied with various stimuli and paradigms. The aim of this study is to develop an active assistive therapy device instead of a passive EMDR technique that will facilitate the practice of the practitioner during the application of the EMDR technique. It is aimed to help remove the traumatic situation in the person by providing simultaneous visual, auditory and sensory stimuli with the active EMDR device to be used under the supervision of an expert. Attention and meditation levels have been measured to determine the effectiveness of the active EMDR device. The experiment was repeated 10 times in different time periods to determine the response to different stimulus groups. Focus level increased with all stimulus groups and changed most visual stimuli with 23.50% change. All stimulus groups reduced the level of meditation simultaneous presentation of visual and auditory stimuli suppressed the meditation level by -5.14% according to the resting state. Thus, the active EMDR device can be modified to control the focus and meditation status with different stimulus groups. The results show that psychologists and psychiatrists may assist in the treatment of patients with posttraumatic stress disorder. © Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi
