The Investigation of Emergency Brake Behaviour with Half Vehicle Test Device
Braking event is an important parameter of the vehicles being an indispensable element of daily life. This study was conducted to determine the effect of changing the brake pedal force on braking during emergency brake. Experiments were carried out using Brake-Suspension Test Device which is used as a semi-vehicle model in the Automotive Engineering Application and Research Laboratory of Afyon Kocatepe University. Data sets obtained from panic braking behaviour of twenty drivers of different age groups and genders were examined and a common braking profile was obtained. The results showed that as the force applied on the brake pedal increased, the internal brake pressure increased, thereby the pressure in the calliper and brake force were increased and reducing stopping distances. It was found that parameters such as age, weight and height did not affect the braking profile much. However, it was found that male drivers had better braking performances than female drivers.
