Evaluation of physical violence toward homosexual men

The aim at the present study is to find'out the prevalance and the features of the physical violence that homosexual men exposed to. The type and severity of physical violence, the characteristics of perpetrators, places of occurence and the emotional responses of the victims have been investigated. The data was collected from a sample of 100 homosexual and 100 heterosexual men. It was predicted that homosexual men would have higher rates of violence victimization and they would be subjected to more severe forms of violence than heterosexual men. According to the results; although both groups had similarly high rates of being exposed to physical violence, some significant differences such as perpetrator characteristics, places of occurrence, the age periods and the severity of physical violence have been detected in the group of homosexual men. Homosexual victims reported being exposed to severe physical violence by strangers mostly in public settings whereas heterosexuals were exposed to physical violence by their parents mainly at home in milder forms.
