The aim of the present study was to investigate relationships between transferrin polymorphism and growth traits of Karakaş lambs in Van region. There was no relationship between growth growth traits of lambs and homozygous and heterozygous transferrin types and genotypes. The differences, however, were determined among genotypes (P<0.05). Least - squares means for homozygous types had generally been superior to measured heterozygous types in the majority of lamb traits. The maximum values for weights at birth, weaning, 90* day of age, end of greazing season and preweaning daily gain were observed in Tf BS; for weight at the end of shearing were in Tf DD; for postweaning daily gain were in Tf MD genotypes. The minimum values for weights at birth, weaning and preweaning daily gain were obtained in Tf MD; for weights at shearing, greazing season and postweaning daily gain were in Tf ME; for weight at the 90 day of age were in Tf DE genotypes. The differences between maximum and minimum means were significant (P<0.05) except weight at the end of shearing. In conclusion, it appears that transferrin types can not be selection criteria in the investigated populations.
