Otodectes cynotis (kulak uyuzu etkeni); kedilerde görülen otitis externa etiyolojisi içerisinde önemli bir yeri olan ve prevalansı (%50-84) oldukça yüksek paraziter bir enfestasyondur. Enfeste kedilerin %85.4’ünde anormal kulak sekresyonu, %41.5’inde ise kaşıntı görülmektedir. Herhangi bir klinik belirti, kulak kiri ve döküntü bulunmayan bazı vakalarda 50-100 adet etken bulunabilirken, ciddi lezyonlar görülen ve koyu kulak kiri olanlarda ise 1-2 adet etken bulunabilmektedir. Etkenleri otoskopik muayenede ya da siyah bir zemin üzerine konulan kulak kirinde hareket eden beyaz noktalar şeklinde çıplak gözle görmek de mümkündür. Kesin tanı mikroskobik muayenede etkenin teşhisi ile konulmaktadır. Temas yolu ile oldukça kolay yayılabilmeleri, zoonoz karakterde olmaları, huzursuzluk, agresiflik gibi klinik belirtilerle kedilerin yaşam kalitesini olumsuz yönde etkilemesi ve tedavi edilmediği ya da sekonder etkenlerle birleşmesi sonucu ölümcül sonuçlara yol açmaları tanı ve tedavisinin önemini arttırmaktadır. Bu derlemenin amacı, kedilerdeki kulak problemlerinin, özellikle de otitis externanın en önemli nedenlerinden olan Otodectes cynotis enfestasyonunun tanı ve tedavisindeki güncel yaklaşımlara dikkat çekmektir. 

 Otodectes  cynotis  (ear  mite)  is  a  parasitic  infestation  that  has  an  important  place  in  the  aetiology  of  otitis  externa  seen  in  cats  and  has  a  relatively  high  prevalence  (50-­‐84  %).  In  infested  cats,  abnormal  secretion  (85.4  %)  and  itching  (41.5  %)  are  observed.  In  some  cases,  50-­‐100  mites  are  observed  with  no  clinical  symptoms  and  earwax  whereas  1-­‐2  mite  can  be  observed  with  severe  lesions  and  dark  earwax.  It  is  also  possible  to  see  the  mites  by  naked  eye  as  white-­‐coloured  moving  dots  by  otoscopic  examination  or  after  placing  on  the  earwax  on  a  black  background.  The  definitive  diagnosis  is  provided  by  the  presence  of  mites  on  the  microscopic  examination.  Its  easily  transfer  by  contact,  zoonotic  character,  adverse  effect  on  the  life  quality  of  cats  with  clinical  signs  (such  as  restlessness  and  aggressiveness)  give  rise  to  fatal  consequences,  while  untreated  or  additional  secondary  factors  increases  the  importance  of  diagnosis  and  treatment.  The  aim  of  this  review  was  to  point  out  the  current  approaches  of  diagnosis  and  treatment  of  Otodectes  cynotis  infestations  that  is  the  major  causes  of  ear  problems  especially  otitis  externa  in  cats.  Key  words:  Diagnosis,  Ear  mite,  Otodectes  cynotis,  Treatment.
