Investigations on the Etiology of Growth Retardation in Suckling Lambs

In this study, it was performed parasitological examinations in faeces and investigated some haematological parameters in a lamb herd with growth retardation feeding only with milk in Şanlıurfa region. Furthermore, it was investigated some mineral levels in blood sera of lambs and its ewes. The study was performed on 59 lambs 32, with growth retardation and 27, without growth retardation aged between 30-35 days and its ewes. Eimeria spp. oocystes and/or helmint eggs were found in 40.63 % of lambs with growth retardation in the parasitological examination, but this ratio was 14.81 % in lambs without growth retardation. Mean serum zinc and copper levels 11.44 ± 0.42 and 12.19 ± 0.56 jtımol/L in lambs with growth retardation were signifıcantly lower p
