Genç Yetişkin Erkeklerin “Baba” Kavramını Değerlendirmeleri

Alanyazın incelendiğinde ebevynlerin çocuk yetiştirme stillerini içeren çalışmaların daha ziyade erken çocukluk dönemine ve ergenlik dönemine odaklandığı görülmektedir. Ancak uzayan yaşam süresi yetişkin çocuk ile yetişkin ebeveyninin ilişkilerini gündeme getirmiştir. Bu çalışmada, kültürümüzde yaşayan genç yetişkin erkeklerin baba kavramını nasıl değerlendirdikleri ve babalığı nasıl algıladıkları araştırılmıştır. Araştırmaya, 402 genç yetişkin erkek katılmıştır. Görüşme soruları, doktora tez izleme komitesinin ve uzmanların görüşleri alınarak oluşturulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda katılımcıların; %33.3’ü (n=135) baba kavramını erkeklik olarak açıklamıştır. Katılımcıların %40’ı (n=165) babalığın otoriter olarak yapılması gerektiğine dair görüş bildirmiştir. Çalışma grubunun %61,1’i (n= 248) babalarından ahlaki ve etik değerler öğrendiklerini söylemişlerdir. Araştırmaya katılanların % 46,8’sı (n=190) babalarının kendilerini sevdiklerini hatırlamadıklarını paylaşmışlardır. Çocuk yetiştirme tutumlarının ve babalık stilinin önemine dair bir çok çalışma/proje yapılsa da bu araştırmada genç yetişkinlerden alınan veriler, hala daha istendik güçlü iletişimin ve etkileşimin sağlanamadığı yönündedir. Yetişkinin ruh sağlığını koruması, güçlü yönlerini bilmesi iyi bir ebeveynlik algısı ve onunla güzel anılar biriktirmesi ile mümkün olacaktır.

Young Adult Men's Evaluation of the Concept of "Father"

When the literature is examined, it is seen that studies on parenting styles mostly focus on early childhood and adolescence. However, the extended life span has brought the relationship between the adult child and the adult parent to the agenda. In this study, it was investigated how young adult men living in our culture evaluate the concept of father and how they perceive fatherhood. 402 young adult men participated in the study. Interview questions were formed by taking the views of the doctoral thesis monitoring committee and experts. As a result of the research, the participants; 33.3% (n=135) explained the concept of father as masculinity. 40% of the participants (n=165) stated that fatherhood should be done authoritatively. 61.1% (n= 248) of the study group said that they learned moral and ethical values from their fathers. 46.8% of the participants (n=190) shared that they did not remember that their father loved them. Although many studies/projects have been carried out on the importance of parenting attitudes and fatherhood style, the data obtained from young adults in this study is that the desired strong communication and interaction is still not achieved. It will be possible for the adult to protect his mental health, to know his strengths, with a good parenting perception and to accumulate good memories with him.
