BAĞLANMA KURAMI VE SOSYAL HİZMET

Anne ve bebek arasındaki görünmez bağı açıklamak için Bowlby'nin temellendirdiği bağlanma kuramı üzerine on yıllardır aralarında sosyal hizmetin de olduğu farklı disiplinler çalışmalar yürütmektedir. İlk başlarda yalnızca bebeklik ve çocukluk dönemlerindeki bağlanma stillerini açıklamada kullanılan kuramın aslında bütün gelişim dönemleri için kritik öneme sahip olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Bağlanma üzerine yapılan araştırmalar bireyin sahip olduğu bağlanma stilinin stres, kaygı, düşük benlik saygısı gibi psikolojik sorunlar üzerine etkisinin olduğunu göstermiştir. Bağlanma stilleri eş seçimi ve evlilik uyumu konusunda belirleyici olmakta hatta madde bağımlılığı ve suç davranışına yol açabilmektedir. Bağlanma stillerinden kaynaklı bu sorunlar sosyal hizmet uygulamalarının doğrudan ya da dolaylı konusu olabilmektedir. Bu kapsamda çalışmada bağlanma kuramının sosyal hizmet uygulamalarındaki yerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda bağlanma kuramının farklı gelişim düzeyleri ve farklı sorunları olan müracaatçılar ile birçok sosyal hizmet alanında uygulamalar gerçekleştirilebileceği anlaşılmıştır. Dahası bağlanma kuramının sadece müracaatçılar ile değil aynı zamanda sosyal hizmet - süpervizyon sisteminde de kullanılabileceği değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçta bağlanma kuramının değerlendirme, müdahale ve karar verme sürecinde sosyal hizmet uygulamalarında yol gösterici nitelikte olduğu söylenebilir. Diğer taraftan feminist ve eleştirel sosyal hizmet bağlanma kuramını sadece bağlanma stillerini ele aldığı ve toplumsal cinsiyet rollerini ve farklılıkları görmezden geldiği için eleştirmektedir.

ATTACHMENT THEORY AND SOCIAL WORK

For decades, various disciplines including social work have been conducting studies based on Bowlby’s attachment theory to elucidate the invisible bond between a mother and her baby. Initially employed to expound attachment styles in infancy and childhood, this theory has revealed its critical significance across all developmental stages. Research on attachment has demonstrated the impact of an individual’s attachment style on psychological issues such as stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. These attachment styles wield decisive influence over mate selection, marital compatibility, and can even contribute to substance abuse and criminal behavior. The problems stemming from attachment styles can directly or indirectly intersect with the realm of social work practice. In this context, the aim of this study is to explore the role of attachment theory in social work applications. The findings suggest that attachment theory can be applied within numerous social work domains, catering to applicants with diverse developmental levels and varying issues. Furthermore, it is discerned that attachment theory can be harnessed not only with applicants but also within the social work supervision system. Ultimately, attachment theory can be deemed guiding in assessment, intervention, and decision-making processes within social work practice. On the other hand, feminist and critical social work perspectives critique attachment theory for its exclusive focus on attachment styles, disregarding gender roles and societal differences.
