Mikst gliomlar

Tanısal ölçütleri zor olmakla birlikte, mikst gliomlar iki farklı hücreden oluşan tümörlerdir. Mikst gliom tanısı için, iki birbirinden farklı morfolojik özellik gösteren alanın birlikte bulunması ön koşuldur. Birçok astrositomada oligodendrogliomayı anımsatan alanlar bulunabildiği gibi tersi de geçerlidir. Bunlara karşın, bir tümörde böylesi bir karşımın bulunması ona mikst gliom tanısı için yeterli değildir. Bu tümörlere tanısal nöropatolojinin günlük uygulamasında nadiren rastlanır. En sık oligoastrositoma şeklindeki mikst gliomaya rastlanmasına karşın, kuramsal olarak oligoastrositoma, ependimoastrositoma, ve oligoependimoma şeklindeki kombinasyonları olabilir

Mixed gliomas

Mixed gliomas are composed of two types of neoplastic glia, but the diagnostic criteria are difficult to define. A diagnosis of mixed glioma should be reserved for neoplasms with separate regions of morphologically distinct cells. Many astrocytomas contain a few cells reminiscent of those in oligodenderoglioma and vice-versa, but such an admixture does not qualify for the term of mixed glioma. Although they are rare tumors in daily practice of diagnostic neuropathology, theoretic combinations of oligoastrocytoma, ependymoastrocytoma, and oligoependymoma, the oligoastrocytoma clearly predominates
