Possibilities of Utilizing First Carbonation Sludge from the Sugar Industry as a Calcium Source in Layer Diets

This study was carried out to investigate the possible use of first carbonation sludge from the sugar industry in layer diets. 324 Babcock B-300 hens were used. Ground marble was replaced in the experimental diets by the sludge to provide the calcium requirements at the rates of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%, respectively. Statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences between percentages (P0.05). The result of this study suggest that first carbonation sludge from the sugar industry could replace ground marble and the level of replacement should be 20% if the sludge is used in the layer diets.
