Flora of Pirreşit Mountain (Van, Turkey)

This paper presents a floristic study of Pirreşit Mountain. The research was carried out in 1997 and 1998, and 3500 vascular plant specimens were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the flora was determined as 820 taxa (at specific and infraspecific ranks) belonging to 767 species, 309 genera, and 65 families. The largest families were Asteraceae (125 taxa), Poaceae (89 taxa), and Fabaceae (72 taxa). The largest genera were Astragalus L. (28), Silene L. (23), and Centaurea L. (16). The phytogeographic elements represented in the study area are as follows: Irano-Turanian 313 (38.2%), Euro-Siberian 78 (9.5%), and Mediterranean 18 (2.2%). When the flora of the area was analysed by Raunkiear´s life form system, the results were as follows: hemicryptophytes 450 (54.9%), therophytes 161 (19.6%), chamaephytes 80 (9.8%), cryptophytes 116 (14.1%), and phanerophytes 13 (1.6%).
