Turkish Adaptation of Adaptive-Maladaptive Perfectionism Scale

The purpose of this study is to adapt Adaptive-Maladaptive Perfectionism Scale (AMPS) to Turkish. The sample consisted of 277 elementary school students from 4th to 8th grades. The findings indicated that the four-factor model is supported by using the confirmatory factor analysis. These factors are following: sensitivity to mistakes, contingent self-esteem, compulsiveness and need for admiration. The results of convergent validity yielded that sensitivity to mistakes and need for admiration were positively correlated with negative perfectionism subscale of Positive Negative Perfectionism Scale (PNPS); contingent self-esteem and compulsiveness were positively correlated with positive perfectionism subscale of PNPS. The internal consistency coefficients of four subscales were .63, .51, .63 and .66 respectively. The test-retest coefficients were .60, .61, .66 and .78. To conclude, this study provided preliminary support for the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the AMPS. Therefore, the scale can be used for measuring perfectionism in Turkish elementary school students.
