Examining the Students' Risk Taking Behaviour and Achievement According to Their Peer Pressure Levels and Gender

In this research the difference between the students' risk- taking behaviour and achievement according to their peer pressure levels and gender is examined. This study is administered in 2001-2002 academic year on 718 students in their 4th term in high school. Peer Pressure Scale and Risk- Taking Behaviour Scale in Adolescents both of which were developed by Kıran (2002) In addition, achievement information are determined by the first semester grades of students. The relationships between "peer pressure", "risk-taking behaviour and achievement" are examined by calculating the correlation coefficient (r) and the changes in risk-taking behaviour and achievement in respect of peer pressure levels and gender is analysed by two way variance of analysis (F test). The observed differences are controlled by Tukey HSD- test. The facts that, there is a significant relationship existing between peer pressure and risk- taking behaviour, and that, there is a significant difference between both peer pressure levels and gender. In addiction, there is a significant relationship existing between peer pressure and achievement, however both peer pressure levels and gender together does not bring about a significant difference on adolescents achievement.
