We have determined Zn Mg and Cu levels of 28 children with IDDM in serum and urine and compared the results with the values of 9 healthy children in order to state the effect of type 1 diabetes on the trace element metabolism and to research the relation between the trace element levels and metabolic control duration of disease and complications nbsp; Though the serum levels of Zn Mg and Cu in diabetic children were found lower than the ones in healthy children there was not any difference between the urine levels of these elements in the two groups We have observed that the metabolic control did not influence the trace element levels and that the duration of diabetes caused a decreased excretion of Cu and Mg An increase in the excretion of Zn was found in patients with neuropathy Key words: IDDM Trace Elements
