Misplacement of a nasogastric tube in the right pleural space (Case report)
Enteral feeding has become an attractive alternative to parenteral nutrition in the intensive care unit. As previously used, nasogastric tubes have been replaced with narrow and soft tubes, complications seen with those devices have changed. We report a case in which 12F polyurethane nasogastric tube was detected in the right pleural space. The tube was removed uneventfully and pneumothorax was not noted. We emphasize that roentgenographic verification of the location of the nasogastric tubes is essential prior to initiation of enteral feeding.
