Mısır’ın Osmanlılar tarafından fethi, yerel halk için travmatik bir olay olmuştur. Bir zamanlar İslâm dünyasının merkezi olan ülke, fetih ile birlite İstanbul’dan yönetilen bir eyalete dönüşmüştür. Mısır üst yöneticilerinin İstanbul’dan atanması bu durumun en açık göstergesidir. 16. Yüzyılda kimi çevrelerde Osmanlı egemenliğine karşı gizli muhalefetin tarih ve iktidarın bunlara karşı önlemi kroniklerde olduğu kadar toplumsal ve kültürel hayatta da karşılığını bulmuştur. Bu çalışmada Evliyâ Çelebi Seyahatnâmesi’nin Mısır anlatısında satır aralarında kalmış iktidar ve muhalefet konu edilmektedir.

The Otoman conquest of Egypt was a traumatic case for the native population. The country, which was once center of the Islamic world, then turned to be a province administered from İstanbul. Appointment of governors of Egypt from İstanbul is a clear indicator of this status.
