Bu çalışmanın amacı, 1949’da Türkiye’de ilk İlahiyat Fakültesinin kuruluşundan itibaren burada ders olarak okutulmaya başlanan din psikolojisinin bilimsel gelişimi (yüksek lisans ve doktora tezleri; makale ve kitaplar) hakkında, tarihsel süreci dikkate alarak bir değerlendirme yapmaktır. Din psikolojisi bilimi ve Türk İslam Düşünce hayatındaki yeri ile ilgili değerlendirmeyi, bir makaleye sığdırmak kolay değildir. Yine de bu alanda yapılmış ve yayımlanmış çalışmalar göz önünde bulundurularak sahip olduğumuz imkanlar ölçüsünde din psikolojisinin Türkiye’deki durumunu tartışacağız. Din psikolojisinin konusu, amacı, yöntemi, Türk düşünce hayatındaki yeri, nasıl bir bilim olduğu, Türkiye’deki gelişim seyri bu makalede yer almaktadır. Ayrıca tartışma bölümünde gözlemleyebildiğimiz kadarıyla din psikolojisinin problemlerine temas ettikten sonra sonuç ve tavsiyeler bölümüyle makale sona ermektedir.
