Enzymatic retting of flax

The initial step in processing flax into linen is called retting, which separates the bast fibers from the core and epidermis of the plant and also separates the fibers from each other. Due to the disadvantages of other methods such as water retting, dew retting, etc., an enzymatic retting system is developed to control the retting process and produce fibers of consistent quality. This article is an overview of enzymatic retting of flax stems.
