Batı’da modernizmin başlamasıyla birlikte birçok ilmî disiplinde yaşanan değişim İslâmî ilimlerde de görülmüştür. Bu değişimden etkilenen İslâmî ilimlerden birisi de Tefsir ilmidir. Tefsir ilmindeki bu etkilenme ile ilgili yapılan çalışmalardan birisi Marmara Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesi Öğretim Üyesi Doç. Dr. Muhammed Coşkun’un yazmış olduğu "Modern Dünyada Kur’an Yorumu" isimli eseridir. Bu eser bir giriş ve dokuz bölümden oluşmaktadır. Eserde Batı düşüncesinden etkilenen İslam dünyasında yaşanan değişimin Kur’an ve tefsir özelindeki tartışmalarına yer verilmiştir. Bu açıdan Kur’ancılık, tarihselcilik, bilimsel tefsir, tematik tefsir, semantik, hermenötik, demitolojizasyon gibi önemli ve tartışılan konular üzerinde durulmuştur. Özellikle hermenötik konusu kitabının en uzun bölümüdür. Bunun yanında İslâm dünyasının bugünkü durumunun düzelmesinin gelenek ile sağlam bir ilişki kurulmasıyla mümkün olabileceği ifade edilmiştir. Ancak yazar bu eserdeki değerlendirmelerinin, nihai çözüm iddiası anlamında yorumlanmaması gerektiğini de belirtmiştir.

With the dawn of the modernism in the West, the changing in many scientific disciplines has also been seen in Islamic sciences. One of the Islamic sciences affected by this change is the science of Tafsir. One of the studies about this influence in the science of tafsir is the work that is named "The Interpretation of the Qur'an in the Modern World" written by Marmara University Faculty of Theology Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Muhammed Coşkun. This work consists of an introduction and nine chapters. The controversies of the alteration in the Islamic world effected by the western ideology, concerning Qur’an and tafsir, were included in this work. For this reason, controversial and crucial topics like Qur’anizm, historicity, scientific tafsir, hermeneutic, demythologization were discussed. Especially the hermeneutic part is the longest part. Besides, it is claimed that it could be possible for the situation of today’s Islamic world to salvage by establishing solid relations to the tradition. However, the author stated that his conclusions shouldn’t be considered as the ultimate solution method.
