Orta Çağ Kıbrıs’ında Türk-Sarazen İmgesi ve Varlığı Üzerine Bir İnceleme

Ortaçağ döneminde Kıbrıs adasının en belirgin özelliklerinden bir tanesi de hiç şüphesiz ki çok kültürlü yapısıdır. Bu konu ile alakalı, Batılı tarihçiler adanın sosyal ve kültürel yapısını inceleyen birçok değerli eseri modern literatüre kazandırmıştır. Fakat bu eserlerin neredeyse tamamı adadaki Hristiyan gruplara odaklanmakla birlikte, Kıbrıs’ın çok kültürlü yapısı içerisinde Türklerin ve diğer Müslüman grupların katkısı ile alakalı neredeyse hiçbir çalışma yoktur. Kıbrıs adasının Ortaçağ Akdeniz ticaretinde Doğu ile Batı arasında üstlendiği rol ve Müslüman topraklarına olan yakınlığı şüphesiz kültürel etkileşimi de beraberinde getirmiştir. Nitekim dönemin noter belgeleri, seyyah notları, mahkeme ve kilise kayıtları gibi birincil kaynaklar incelendiği zaman Türklerin ve Müslümanların adada çeşitli sebeplerle ikamet ettikleri ve diğer Hıristiyan gruplarla etkileşim halinde oldukları gözlemlenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Ortaçağ Kıbrıs’ında Türk-Sarazen imgesi ve varlığı çeşitli dönem kayıtları üzerinden bütüncül bir şekilde incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.

An Examination of the Turkish-Muslim Image and Presence in Medieval Cyprus

One of the most distinctive features of the medieval Cyprus is undoubtedly its multi-cultural society. Thanks to the modern scholarship who have contributed enormously to the existing literature by examining socio-cultural dynamics of the island, the complex cultural structure of the island becomes more comprehensible. However, although most of these works focus on the Christian groups on the island, there are almost no studies on the Turks and other Muslim groups existed in the island. When the archival material is scrutinized, it becomes apparent that Muslim community was a part of the multi-cultural society and their socio-cultural activities can be traced through the archival material. In this regard, this study aims to contribute to a better understanding and assessment of the Turkish-Saracen image and existence in the medieval Cyprus.
