Seasonal distribution of Cladocerans in İzmir Bay

In order to determine the seasonal distribution of cladocerans in Izmir Bay, this study was carried out in 2004-2005. Samples were collected from six stations by vertical hauls through integrated water columns (0 m. -bottom) using a WP2 zooplankton net with a mesh size of 200 [im. Totally six Cladocera species were identified in plankton material collected from Izmir Bay; Penilia avirostris Dana, Evadne spinifera Muller, E. tergestina Clauss, E. nordmanni Loven, Podon polyphemoides Leuckart, and P. intenvedius Lilljeborg. P. avirostris, E. spinifera and E. tergestina were the most important species due to they were dominant and the commonest forms in spring and particularly in summer in this area. E. nordmanni was found in small numbers in all seasons, except in summer. P.intermedius and P. polyphemoides could be characterized as frequent forms.
