Bu çalışmada İzmir Körfezi'nde İç, Orta ve Dış Körfezde seçilen 7 istasyonda, 8 Mayıs 1993 ve'18 Temmuz 1994 tarihleri arasında her ay yapılan örneklemeler sonucu fitoplanktonun kantitatif değişimleri değerlendirilmiştir. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda Nisan 1994 döneminde özellikle de iç körfez olmak üzere tüm körfezde diatomun baskın olduğu gözlenmiş ve Skeletonema costatum (Greville) Cleve'un aşırı çoğaldığı tespit edilmiştir. Dinoflagellata'dan Oxyphysaceae familyasına ait Oxyphysis oxytoxoides Kofoid türü ise yeni kayıt olarak tayin edilmiştir. 1994 yılı Haziran ayında iç körfezde amonyak değerinin maksimum değere çıkmasına paralel olarak bu dönemde Öglenoid diatom türlerinin baskın olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Quantitative changes in phytoplankton of Izmir Bay. This study was carried out between May 1993 and July 1994 on monthly basis at 7 stations of inner, center and outer Bay of Izmir and quantitative changes in phytoplankton were evaluated. According to te results of the study, diatomess were observed as high dominance in all over the bay in April 1994 (specially in inner bay) and Skeletonema costatum (Greville) Cleve was over exeeded. Oxyphysis oxytoxoides Kofoid which is included Oxyphysaceae family (Dinophylagellata) was given a new record. Euglenoid and diatom species were determined in June 1994 in inner bay with high ammonnium concentration in the same period.
