An atypical case of Guillain -Barre syndrome admitted with joint pain: Case report

Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an acute inflammatory polyneuropathy which appears together with albumino-cytologic dissociation in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The majority of cases present with symmetric muscle weakness and areflexia. In this paper, a seven-year-old male patient with joint pain as the first clinical finding, who has been diagnosed with GBS 72 hours later is presented. Although joint pain is defined in GBS, it is very rarely the first symptom. In this case presentation, it was emphasized that GBS also should be considered in the differential diagnosis of joint pain with unknown cause and that caution should be taken about autonomic dysfunction while administring anesthetic substances to these patients.
