Freezing is an important risk in vaccine safety

Studies carried out both in hot and cold climates show that vaccines that are sensitive to cold sometimes freeze. Vaccines may freeze when refrigerator temperature falls to zero degrees or below, when they directly contact the ice supply or when they are carried in cold weather without protection. In this paper, methods to monitor freezing, freezing shaking test and methods for protection against the unwanted effects of cold are discussed.
