Sport Participation and Gender Differences in Rhythmic Ability

The purpose of the study was to investigate therole of sport participation and gender on rhythmicability. Participants were junior competitive male andfemale tennis players (n= 31, age= 11.61 year, training age= 4.38 year) and non-active male and femalecontrols (n= 32, age= 12.12 year). The High/ScopeRhythmic Competence Analysis Test (RCAT) wasused to evaluate the rhythmic ability of participants. The RCAT was conducted with two different temposof metronome that were 50 beats per minute and120 beats per minute. An independent-sample t-testwas conducted to evaluate the rhythmic abilities ofparticipants. Results revealed that rhythmic abilityperformance scores of junior competitive tennis players were higher than non-active controls and RCATscores of male and female participants indicated similarities.
