Validity of Fitspeed Multi-functional Sports Performance Measurement and Training System

In sports sciences, a lot of methods and tests are usedin determining the motoric performance (speed, agility etc.) levels of sportsmen. The photocell basedtiming systems are the leading ones used in this areathat are reliable and valid. The aim of the currentstudy was to investigate the validity of Fitspeed themulti-functional sports performance measurementand training system. The participants were 30 maleuniversity students (Age:21.56±2.07 years, Length:176.33±6.29 cm, Body Weight:68.88±6.18 kg). In orderto determine the validity of Fitspeed system, datameasured concurrently with Fitspeed and Newtestsystem which is valid and reliable were comparedeach other used in 10m and 30 m speed, agility(T test) and anaerobic capacity (RAST) tests. In thereactive agility test, the results of the concurrentmeasurements via Fitspeed and video image analysiswere compared each other. A paired t test was appliedfor the detection of the systematic differencebetween the measurement systems. In order to test thevalidity, analyses of Intraclass Correlation Coefficient(ICC), Coefficient of Variances (CV) and Bland Altmanmethod were used. A high level of ICC (0.98, 0.95, 0.98,0.99, and p<0.001, respectively) and a low level of CV(1.08%, 0.51%, 0.63%, and 0.97%, respectively) weredetected in the 10m and 30m sprint, T test, RAST test, and reactive agility test. Moreover, there was not anysystematic bias or random error found. Consequently, the newly developed Fitspeed system can be used as areliable and valid system.
