18. Yüzyılın ikinci yarısı, siyasî şartları bakımından Osmanlı tarihinin en kritik dönemlerinden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Gerek ağır askerî mağlubiyetler gerekse iç/dış siyasette yaşanan inişli-çıkışlı süreçler dolayısıyla yaşanan buhranlar yüzyılın ikinci yarısına, özellikle son çeyreğine damgasını vurmuştur. Dönemin Osmanlı tarih yazarları, bu önemine matuf şekilde elli yıllık süreçte vuku bulan hadise ve gelişmeleri kayıt altına almışlardır. Dönemin tarih yazarları arasında yer alan ve Câvîd adıyla bilinen müellifin kaleme aldığı İbretnümâ-yı Devlet adlı eserde de bu süreç, iç-dış siyaset bağlamında sosyal, askerî ve ekonomik gelişmeleri de içerecek şekilde anlatılmaktadır. İbretnümâ-yı Devlet-i Câvîd’in tespit edilebilen tek nüshasını konu edinen bu makalede, eserin içeriği, ele aldığı mevzuların kapsamı, aktardığı bilgiler, anlatım şekli vb. hususlar üzerinde durulmaktadır. Ayrıca, mevcut fihristinin çeşitli eksiklikleri bulunması ve içeriğini tam olarak yansıtamamasından dolayı, tarafımızdan hazırlanmış, eserin iç başlıklarını esas alan fihristine de çalışmanın ekinde yer verilmiştir. Çağdaşı olan benzer içerikli eserlerle mütevazi bir karşılaştırmasını da içeren bu makalenin esas hedefi, İbretnümâ-yı Devlet’in bu dönemi çalışan araştırmacılarca daha iyi tanınmasına ve buna ek olarak aktardığı bilgilerle yeni çalışmalara konu edilmesine vesile olmaktır.

Eighteenthcentury has been considered as one of the most critical periods of the Ottoman history in terms of political developments. Both military defeats and the turmoil in domestic and foreign politics defined the century, especially in its second half. Due to the importance of these developments which took place in the period, the Ottoman historians of the time tried to keep the trace of the events by producing numerous treatises and chronicles. Câvîd’s İbretnümâ-yı Devlet is among such chronicles which tried to convey the social, military and economical atmosphere of the period by focusing on domestic and foreign politics. Through the only available copy of the manuscript, this article is an attempt to examine İbretnümâ-yı Devlet in terms of its content and style. Due to the deficiencies of the original index of the work, a new index based on the subheadings in the book was added to the appendix. The article also aims to presenta comparison between “İbretnümâ-yı Devlet” and other contemporary texts. This will not only help us to understand the importance of the book, but also open the way for further studies.
